PET doesn’t have anything to do with rover the dog or skippy the kangaroo, it stands for “Positron Emission Tomography” which is a complicated name for the type of scanner that we use to scan patients after we inject them with radioactive dye

PET is a abbreviation which ideally should be written as P.E.T; standing for “Positron Emission Tomography”. You got confused because some lazy people in the world have just messed it up.

The hint is if all the letters of word PET are capitals you are referring to Positron Emission Tomography else you are referring to an animal which can be Jimbo the dog or millie the cat or any house pet as a matter of fact.

Positron Emission Tomography, something like a reverse CT scanner, instead of the radiation going through you, you’re injected with radioactive substance which gives off radiation and detected by the scanner. It’s excellent at showing where disease is located, but not so good at showing anatomy, which is why we normally have combined PET/CT scanners nowadays!
