• Question: If you had to lose an unimportant part of your body (say an ear or finger) for the sake of new scientific discoveries, would you, what part would you choose, and why?

      I would lose my appendix as we don’t really need it any more, so i don’t think that i would miss it!

      Firstly no part of the body is unimportant unless you have appendix present (which may not be of any use in research). I would be happy to loose some “bone marrow” ,”skin”,”tissue from muscles” for research purposes as these can replenish themselves overtime. Skin / Tissue graft can help heal burn wounds and research in Skin cancer. Bone marrow is found in bones which helps create red and white blood cells. In some cases a bone marrow transplant is life saving.

      Like the others, I would donate certain parts that would regrow back over time. I already donate blood very regularly so I guess I already am! I would also gladly donate my organs if I die so someone could benefit from my kidneys, heart or lungs

      One of my old physics teachers only had 4 fingers….. maybe this is what he did!

      However, it is not the norm to sacrifice body parts for new scientific discoveries!! 😉
