I was at a Nobel Prize for Physics meeting before, I was working as a science reporter. I got to meet a lot of famous physicists who discovered some very cool stuff about particle physics. Some important physicists where I work now also invented new types of scanners, so they’re famous in medicine
I met a very well known scientist called Marcel Van Herk from the Netherlands, he’s like the modern day Einstein (and has the mad hair to match!) and a bit of a celebrity in the field! This was at a conference and I was a bit starstruck at first but he was great fun and we went out partying until 4am!
The most famous scientists I’ve met all do sleep research. Prof Jim Horne is one of the most well known sleep scientists and has been on the tv and radio talking about sleep. He’s even been on Police, Camera, Action talking about sleepy drivers falling asleep at the wheel.
Having thought about this a bit more, I was taught at Edinburgh University by Prof Higgs (of Higgs boson fame) and I have also met Dara O’Briain several times as I used to work front of house for his shows at the Edinburgh Festival. He his a hilarious comedian but also very clever and had a degree in physics and now appears on the BBC’s Stargazing with Brian Cox.
